Individually designed with you in mind

We take pride in the fact that we offer one of the finest wilderness adventure tours in the world. Our unique "design-your-own-itinerary" program allows you the freedom to create your own personalized itinerary before your arrival if you wish. Otherwise you can let us know your personal preferences and we will be happy to plan your itinerary for you! Once you have arrived at High & Wild and can see first-hand what adventures are available, we will do our best to accommodate any change of plans you wish to make. Flexibility has always been our style!

Sunday

You will arrive in Fort St. John at 9:30 am via Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta or, via Vancouver, British Columbia. There you will be met at the arrival gate by our representative, and taken, at your leisure, to your chartered "air taxi," bound for High & Wild Wilderness Safaris! The hour and a half flight through some of the world's most breathtaking and spectacular mountains will give you your first glimpse of this awesome northern paradise. After settling in at your predetermined camp, you will enjoy a hearty, northern lunch, (fresh baked breads, elk or moose stews, home-made pies, each day brings different delights) cooked to perfection on our wood-burning stoves by the world's best wilderness cooks! After lunch and orientation, you may decide to kick off your "boots" and relax, or jump right into any one of the numerous activities waiting for you.

Monday & Tuesday

After enjoying our famous western breakfast, get set for two days of fun-filled adventures custom designed for you using your planning guide. You might have our wranglers saddle up some mountain horses (give you a horseback riding lesson if necessary) then set out to explore some of the world's most magnificent and pristine wilderness areas. You may prefer to fly in by helicopter for a photosafari of gigantic rocks, plunging waterfalls, and delicate alpine wildflowers. Perhaps you would like to learn to pan for gold, or visit a natural mineral lick for a ringside show of wildlife feeding, or pack up and ride out for an overnight camp-out? It's all possible! This is your adventure. If you are based at Lower Prairie Camp, you might choose to take an exciting float trip down Prairie River through stretches of whitewater, then raft quietly, observing wildlife enroute and some of the most spectacular scenery in British Columbia. You may like to go fly fishing in the river just beyond your cabin door. Or you may choose to take a hike with one of our guides, identifying wildflowers and fauna enroute, stopping for a picnic in the shade of the trees, listening to the colourful stories and humour shared by our wilderness guides, checking out how many species are visiting today at a nearby mineral lick. Watch herds of elk feeding along the mountainsides, wander through glittering strands of poplar trees...even the most jaded traveler cannot help but be impressed here by some of the most splendid herds of mountain sheep on the North American continent. If Blue Lake is your base, you could choose to spend all day everyday just canoeing the lake! There is always something wonderful happening on Blue Lake. You might spend time watching the antics of moose; spot for bald or golden eagles; enjoy the wild swans, ducks and loons; catch fish to eat yourself or to feed to the otter! After canoeing you could visit the working beaver pond, photograph the profusion of wild flowers, hike high into alpine areas for an unbelievable view of the lake and surrounding mountains, explore the peninsula, relax under the pines in our comfortable hammocks, read, relax, or do nothing at all but be soothed by nature in this secluded paradise. Remember to have your camera handy and bring plenty of film. You'll need it!

Wednesday & Thursday

These days have been set aside for you to spend a full day visiting our other two camps where you will want to take advantage of the opportunity to see and do some of the things that are unique to each. If visiting Blue Lake Camp for the day you may want to jump into a boat and go out fishing or you may prefer to take a trail ride up into the high alpine. Another option would be to trail ride down to a mountain goat mineral lick. If visiting Horseshoe Mountain Lodge (Base Camp) you won't want to miss the wildlife display or the souvenir store. You may wish to just relax and soak in the outdoor hot tub with its fabulous view of both Mount Gary Powell and Horseshoe Mountain. If you are feeling more energetic and wish to hike, you may choose to be dropped off by helicopter on top of Mount Gary Powell or Horseshoe Mountain. The vistas from these mountains are breathtaking and the hike down will take you across snow caps and screes and alpine meadows. The flora and fauna enroute are a feast for the eyes. If visiting Lower Prairie Camp you may elect to go on a river rafting trip, go stream fishing or you may prefer to watch the large numbers of wildlife visiting mineral licks in close proximity to camp. If you are not interested in visiting our other camps, you would have the option to stay and continue with your base camps' program. If staying, this would be an excellent time to consider an overnight safari to one of our remote campsites or charter one of our Add these! Adventure Tours.

Friday & Saturday

On these "specialty days" you may want to consider going on one or more of our Add these! Adventure Tours. Heli-hike the glaciers, jet boat up the Muskwa River and return by river raft, spend the day at the ranch of one of our neighbours viewing wild buffalo or take the tour which combines flight seeing with driving on the world famous Alaska Highway to Liard Park and Hotsprings. If you haven't had the time to fit in an overnight excursion, this may be the perfect opportunity. Some guests choose to use this time taking in activities they have missed thus far while others ask for a repeat of the activities they have enjoyed the most. In any event the options are almost limitless and your wish is our command!

Sunday

This is either the last day of your wilderness vacation or the beginning of your second week with us. You may wish to change your base camp for this week. If leaving, you have the morning to pack up and say your farewells. The flight back to Fort St. John departs around 2:00 PM and arrives in plenty of time for you to make your connecting flight out. You may wish to stay in Fort St. John and area for a few days to visit a variety of local attractions such as native craft shops, museums, art galleries, Hydro Electric Dams, Game Farms etc. For further information about our area please go to the links below.
